PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The ‘Welfare Association of Parents of Children with Disability’ is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, i.e. Section 20 in the year 2013. It was started to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to the children with disabilities with the help of the parents.

Parents are only the person who suffer mentally, physically & economically for the rehabilitation of their child. Only the parents can tell about all the basic need of their children. In case of disabled children, parents play a key role in the development of their children. The disabled children have to depend on their parents up to age of 14 years, but some cases they have to depend on their parents for the whole of their life. Disabled children spend only few hours at the rehabilitation center / Special school. The parents do not know how to tackle their children. With the help of proper training & counseling, the parents can help their children to a greater extent in tackling the problem of disability.

Most of the parents are unaware about the rights & provision of the Disability Act & Circulars issued by our government in favor of our children. The aim of our association is to bring awareness about the rights of the disabled children & educate them. In the case of violation of their rights by the different agencies like government , private sector, NGO, & PSUs,etc, we can help in resolving these issues with the help of the parents. The key elements mentioned here are sine que non for the development of a disabled child. As per the Disability Act 1995 & National Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, the essential elements for the development of disable children are:-

  • Habilitation and Rehabilitation
  • Education
  • Health
  • Barrier free accessibility & environment
  • Social Security
  • Leisure Culture and Sports
  • Employment Work Occupation
  • Guarantee equality and non- discrimination

This website has been launched keeping into account the various stakeholders of the society. I believe this answer the immediate queries of the parents. Stakeholders and enthusiastic social workers. To make it more useful and interactive, the Association will welcome any suggestion given by interested persons for improving the existing mode of information dissemination. We will be grateful if the suggestions regarding improvement in activities of the association are also communicated to us by the learned and concerned people of the society, who are dedicated to the cause of persons with disabilities.
